Party On: Man Launches GoFundMe Campaign to Get Hollywood Execs to Read His “Wayne’s World 3” Script

Hoping to keep the 90’s classic franchise Wayne’s World alive, a man by the name of Trevor Schindeler has launched a GoFundMe initiative as a way to attract Hollywood executives to his Wayne’s World 3 script.

Waynes WorldThe 1992 film, which was the big screen spin-off of the Saturday Night Live skit, starred Mike Myers as Wayne and Dana Carvey as Garth. Its synopsis reads:

“Two slacker friends try to promote their public-access cable show.”

Sharing details about the movie’s script, Schindeler wrote:

“For twenty-three years, I have tried to get someone, anyone, inside Fortress Hollywood to read my screenplay.  To date, no one has.  Everyone has refused to read it including producers, directors, actors, and even entertainment agents.  Why?  There is a strict policy in Hollywood against reading “unsolicited” work.  Of course, no one has been so kind as to solicit my screenplay.  Hollywood has circled the wagons to keep people like you and me out.  Playing by Hollywood’s rules is not working.  That is why I am mounting this social media campaign to storm the barricades of Fortress Hollywood.”

Schindeler then explained that after Wayne’s World 2 released in 1993, he began to write a synopsis for his Waynes World 3. He registered his work with the Writers Guild of American, West, Inc. in July 1993.

“Being young and naively optimistic, much like Wayne and Garth themselves, I assumed that I could get someone inside Fortress Hollywood to read my work.  Surely, Hollywood is looking for great stories.  I sent out query letters to everyone associated with the Wayne’s World franchise including producers, directors, writers, and actors.  I was stonewalled.  No one would even read my synopsis. I set this project aside for a number of years.  Then, around the turn of the century, I took another shot at it.  On February 22,2001 I registered a longer treatment titled Wayne’s Leisure World; The Final Sequel?”

Unfortunately, he hasn’t had any luck what’s so ever in regards to bringing his work to anyone’s attention. He received a letter from Mike Myers (who co-wrote the films) along with the other co-writers Bonnie and Terry Turner.

Despite the setbacks, Schindeler refused to give up:

“I had a plan.  I would find an agent to represent me.  An agent would know who to talk to inside Fortress Hollywood and could make a pitch on my behalf.  This would get around Hollywood’s policy of not reading unsolicited material.  I wrote to numerous agents confident that one of them would recognize raw talent when they saw it and agree to represent me.  It never occurred to me that agents wouldn’t accept unsolicited material either.

“So, as it stands, no one inside Fortress Hollywood has read my screenplay.  I could rest easy if someone inside Fortress Hollywood had read the screenplay and told me it sucked.  I could move on.  What motivates me is that I know that I have a hilarious screenplay sitting in my computer collecting dust.  I want to share it.

“I want hundreds of people to read the screenplay because one of you will know someone who knows someone inside Fortress Hollywood. I plan to use the funds raised to further promote this campaign by purchasing outdoor advertising in Los Angeles, California.  I have set a fund raising goal of $2,500 for this purpose.”

Since its launch, Schindeler’s campaign has only raised $530. You can read Wayne’s World 3 here.
