GoFundMe Names #GivingTuesday 2016 Largest Single Day of Giving in Its Platform’s History After Campaigns Raise Over $7.4M

On Wednesday, GoFundMe announced campaigns on its crowdfunding platform raised more than $7.4 million on #GivingTuesday 2016. The website confirmed it was the largest single day of giving in its history.

MoneyGoFundMe confirmed the campaigns on its platform received a 46% increase in funds from last year. On #GivingTuesday 2015, GoFundMe campaigns raised $5.07 million. As part of the #GivingTuesday festivities, the funding portal debuted its latest competition, #GoBeyondGiving Challenge.

As previously reported, the crowdfunding platform stated it is challenging people to continue the season of giving by launching a campaign on its site for those in need, community improvement projects, or a charity. By using the #GoBeyondGiving hashtag, initiative organizers will be entered to win a $10,000 donation for their cause.

Each month, GoFundMe reportedly gives over $100,000 to deserving campaigns nominated by its employees as part of our Gives Back program. This month, the employees will nominate #GoBeyondGiving campaigns, and they were set to surprise over 100 campaigns on #GivingTuesday, with $1,000 donations. Also, all campaigns started on behalf of charities will be part of the platform’s new partnership with PayPal Giving Fund, with over one million charities to select from.

Rob SolomonRob Solomon, GoFundMe CEO, recently explained:

“Now more than ever, we need to focus on kindness, empathy, and paying it forward by giving back. From Fidencio the Paleta Man to Chauncy’s Chance, we’ve seen how ordinary people who start GoFundMe campaigns can change someone’s world. With our #GoBeyondGiving challenge and Giving Tuesday donations, we are aiming to build on the incredible, life-changing momentum we see every day on our platform.”

The contest is set to end on December 9th, and the winner will be announced the week of December 12th. Here is now to sign up:

  1. Start a GoFundMe for someone in need, a community project, or a charity.
  2. Add the hashtag #GoBeyondGiving to the campaign description and tell the platform why you are giving thanks by helping out.
  3. Share the campaign on social media to start raising money.
