Alibaba Group’s E-commerce Site Daraz in Pakistan to Encourage Digital Payments by Offering 10% Discount on Mondays on Purchases Made with Visa Cards

Payments giant Visa has teamed up with Pakistan’s Daraz, an online marketplace and logistics firm which operates in markets of South Asia and Southeast Asia (owned by Alibaba Group).

Through the long-term, strategic partnership, the companies will introduce “Visa Mondays,” which will allow Daraz customers to get a 10% discount if they make payments using their Visa debit or credit card every Monday.

The launch of this promotion should encourage more Pakistani consumers to conduct digital transactions, instead of making cash payments, which may no longer be safe due to COVID-19.

Visa has also introduced the “Where You Shop Matters” (WYSM) campaign in Pakistan with assistance from Daraz. The initiative will be focused on supporting SMBs in Pakistan, which may be struggling to maintain operations due to the Coronavirus crisis.

The WYSM initiative will offer access to the Visa Small Business Hub, which is a merchant platform that provides useful tools and resources on how to manage a small business. Where You Shop Matters is notably a part of Visa’s larger project, which involves other countries based in Europe and the Middle East.

Visa also recently showcased how SMBs in Pakistan have been using Daraz’s online marketplace and logistics infrastructure. The partnership aims to encourage Visa customers in the country to make purchases via Daraz which reportedly has around 50,000 local marketplace sellers on its platform.

Syed Zeeshan Ali, Director Digital Payments, Daraz Pakistan stated:

“Daraz is committed to propelling the wave of digitization in Pakistan through creative innovation. We are focused on offering digital solutions and through our long–term strategic partnership with Visa we have extended support to SMEs impacted by the COVID–19 pandemic. With the recent launch of Visa Mondays program on Daraz, we are also encouraging customers to experience digital payments on our platform.”

Kamil Khan, Country Manager for Pakistan, Visa remarked:

“As the world continues to deal with the impact of COVID-19, consumers more than ever before seek convenient, secure and rewarding digital commerce experiences. At Visa, our goal is to drive eCommerce, support local merchants with the necessary tools to thrive and excel, and educate the population on the security of online commerce with Visa.”
