Former Klarna Executive Koen Köppen Named New Mollie CTO

Koen Köppen has reportedly joined Mollie as their new chief technology officer (CTO) to support their expansion into “world-class” financial services.

Koen joins after “spending more than a decade at Klarna, where he held several leadership positions before being named the Swedish fintech’s CTO almost five years ago.”

Koen turned Klarna into “a product delivery machine, helping drive innovation as the company became Europe’s most valuable fintech.”

At Mollie, Koen will be responsible “for the reliability, scalability, and development of our technology platforms, spearheading our tech teams as we accelerate innovation to enhance our existing and future products and services.”

Shane Happach, Mollie CEO, stated:

“We’re excited to welcome Koen and his wealth of experience to the Mollie management team. This was a unique opportunity for Mollie to secure an experienced leader with deep expertise in the financial ecosystem. Koen has led large teams through many modern-day, complex challenges, and he is the perfect person to help us continue to scale our business.”

Koen was a member of the Mollie Supervisory Board and Audit/Risk Committee, “joining in January 2020.”

He had “stepped down from these positions in March.”

Koen remarked:

“Having spent more than a decade in fintech and having helped Klarna scale across Europe and beyond, I’m here to help Mollie harness its huge opportunity for growth. Mollie is one of Europe’s most exciting high-growth businesses and is at the forefront of enabling small- and medium-sized online retailers to take on larger ecommerce competitors. I’m thrilled to be supporting Mollie’s aim to help businesses of all sizes to grow with effortless financial services.”

Koen will continue “to grow the engineering team at Mollie and is actively hiring.”

As noted by the firm’s management:

“We are Mollie, pioneers in payments and one of Europe’s fastest-growing payment service providers. Our mission is to help businesses grow and democratise the digital economy by simplifying financial services.”

They added:
