Australia: Investment Crowdfunding Grows by 82% in 2022

Investment crowdfunding in Australia grew by 82% in the first 6 months of the year, according to the leading platform Birchal.

Birchal shares that this growth was fueled largely due to its operations as it garnered 73% of all online securities offering. Crowd-sourced funding (or CSF – as it is called in Australia), saw 98 successful securities offerings raising $86 million incorporating 43,000 individual investments.

Birchal reports that Australian securities crowdfunding industry continues to grow with over $185 million raised across over 240 successful offers since the updated regulatory regime commenced 2018.

The most popular industries leveraging online capital formation in 2022 include Food & Beverage with 33 successful securities offers raising a total of $29.5 million (34% of all funds raised during the year). Beverage-related businesses accounted for over half of the funds raised in this industry category with 12 campaigns raising a total of $15 million.

Sustainability was the next most invested industry, with 9 successful securities offerings raising a total of $13.2 million.
