A Jane Austen Museum Wants Kelly Clarkson’s Ring And They’re Asking The Crowd For Help

jane-austen-ringKelly Clarkson is a huge Jane Austen fan. She’s such a fan that she had to have a ring formerly owned by the renowned author, and Clarkson shelled out just over £150,000 to buy it at a recent Sotheby’s auction. The auction house only expected the ring to net between £20 and £30 thousand.

In an interesting turn of events, the UK placed a temporary export ban on the ring in order to try and stop Clarkson from taking it out of the country. Now a museum in the house where Austen spent the last 8 years of her life has been given until December 30th to match the hammer price in order to buy the ring back, and they’re using crowdfunding to do so… sort of.

They haven’t launched a campaign on a platform, but their web site is asking donors to contact Jane Austen’s House Museum directly in order to donate to the campaign. They recently secured a £100,000 donation, so they have just under £49,000 in order to secure the ring and  have it on display in their museum. More information is available on their site.

Hey, Jane Austen’s House Museum… crowdfund it!
