On Indiegogo: Linux Voice Meets Crowdfunding Goal For Free Software Magazine

Andrew Gregory, Mike Saunders and Ben Everard produce a podcast called Linux Lifestyle. They were also all writers at Linux Format, a news source for Linux enthusiasts and those passionate about free software. Earlier this year the trio quit in order to bring a new publication to market, and they’re now seeking funding from the crowd for this new idea. The publication is to be titled Linux Voice.

They launched an Indiegogo campaign back in November seeking £90,000 for the creation of this new print product. They just recently met that funding goal thanks to hundreds of new subscribers that bought into the publication early. With a little under two weeks left to go in the campaign they have raised over £98,000.

There are some interesting initiatives behind the new publication. For example, the team says that 50% of proceeds will go back to the free software and linux communities via sponsorships voted on and selected by Linux Voice’s readers. They plan on publishing all of their content online 9 months after original publication in the print magazine, thus allowing anyone to learn from and share this content all over the world. Content will be distributed under a Creative Commons license that allows sharing with attribution.

One year subscriptions are available for £80 for European residents, £90 for residents of the US and Canada, and £95 for the rest of the world. Additionally, there are lifetime subscriptions and advertising packages available via the Indiegogo campaign.
