Crowdfunding on CrowdTilt: Fly NYC Women to San Francisco to Find True Love

CrowdTilt has an interesting crowdfunding campaign on their platform,  “Cross Country Love” is raising money to fly New York based women to San Francisco to bridge the gender disparity between the two coastal communities.   According to the campaign their are  100,000 single women in NYC and 40,000 single men in SF – so why not have the two sides meet?

Organized by Y-Combinator startup, The Dating Ring, it all started as a joke about cross country matchmaking with the only obstacle being several thousand miles and an airport or two.  But now the crowdfunding initiative is reality and attempting to raise $50,000 to fund the dream.  The campaign “Tilts” (becomes funded) at $10,000 and with ten days left they have a few more thousand dollars to go.  You can contribute to a specific individuals quest for companionship by mentioning their name in the comments when you donate.  Of course if you are feeling very altruistic you can contribute and just sponsor the project in general.

All funds collected go to the benevolent cause of sponsoring free trips for NYC women to SF.  The selected dates are for this coming May where The Dating Ring will set up cocktail parties, dates and housing.  If you raise $1250 for someone they will throw in some matchmaking and dating coaching sessions via Skype (something probably all of us need – even when married).  If you think about it – the idea is not so crazy.  Long distance love does occur and supply & demand does count.

Now if you think that it is unfair for NYC women to do all of the heavy lifting by chasing men in SF, the Dating Ring has created a similar campaign to fly SF men to meet NYC based women.  For some reason this crowdfunding campaign has not seen quite the success of the other.  I welcome your theories on that.

There are some eligibility requirements you need to check.  Women are expected to be in the range of 21 to 40 and you need to be a member of The Dating Ring.
