As the world knows the Ukraine has become a global flashpoint as Russia moves forward to consolidate their regional dominance by incorporating the Crimean peninsula and sizing up opportunities with the Ukrainian mainland. In tense geo-political situations like this, independent and vibrant media is of paramount importance.
As reported previously, HromadskeTV’s campaign on IndieVoicies is crowdfunding to support their work as the only TV resource in Ukraine free from the political or business involvement. The campaign is coming to a close at midnight, March 28. All funds raised by that time will be awarded to the media outlet, even if they don’t reach their intended $45,000 goal.
The money raised will go direcdtly to running the station. The example given for utilizing funds raised is that $50 would pay for one day’s wages for a cameraman. $100 covers the daily wages of three journalists. $500 would pay for one month’s rent for the servers needed to broadcast their online TV channel.
One of the founders of HromadskeTV, Roman Skrypin stated;
“Now, as our country goes through difficult times and faces aggression from Russia, more than ever the people of Ukraine are in need of unbiased information free from the Russian media propaganda widely spread in Eastern and Western parts of our country.”
The campaign has quite a ways to go in their attempt to raise the requested $45,000 but if you are feeling so inclined to help report what is occurring in the Ukraine – here is your chance.
