Silicon Valley Gives Raises $7.9 Million in 24 Hours

More than 14,600 donors came together to support over 650 charitable organizations in Silicon Valley in a one day event that raised an incredible $7.9 million.  The first ever day of giving event was powered by Emmett Carsoncrowdfunding platform Razoo.

“It is incredibly gratifying to see how generously Silicon Valley residents and companies responded to the needs of our local nonprofit organizations,” said Emmett Carson, CEO of Silicon Valley Community Foundation, which hosted SVGives with support from lead sponsor Microsoft and about 100 other sponsors. “All day, we heard from charities that said the SVGives experience exceeded their expectations and has set them on a path for future fundraising success. We could not ask for a better result than this.”

SVGivesDonors could choose among more than 650 charities, and make donations starting at just $10. Throughout the day, donations were eligible to be matched by donations already pledged by individuals and companies that sponsored SVGives. The response by the community was so great, that several matches were met within minutes of their launch. Additionally, a number of employees are getting their donations matched by their corporate employer making their total impact to SVGives far greater than these initial closing numbers. SVCF expects these giving totals for SVGives to be finalized in the coming days.

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation acts as a catalyst to provide innovative solutions for the region’s most challenging problems.  The organization has $4.7 billion in assets under management.

RazooSVGives was powered by Razoo a donations crowdfunding platform that has raised over $200 million via 90,000 fundraising websites.
