Creative England and the UK’s leading crowdfunding website, Crowdfunder have joined forces to find and fund the England’s top female game developers and freelancers through an innovative crowdfunding partnership.

CrowdfunderA widely reported 49% of gamers in the England are women but only 12% of the people making the games are female, this partnership aims to put the creative juices of the female counterpart of the industry into the spotlight, jump-starting more opportunities across the board. The initial £15k fund is being distributed by Crowdfunder to women in the gaming world who are looking to create, write, build and develop games for the ever-growing industry.

Crowdfunder is hosting this unique campaign, called Queen Of Code for developers to upload crowdfunding projects and raise the funds to make their great ideas happen. The first three projects to meet their targets will each receive an additional £5k boost from Creative England, a nonprofit organization investing and nurturing the country’s richly diverse games, TV, film and digital media industries.

This partnership will enable female game developers and industry pioneers to receive the funding they need to support their work alongside reaching out to the digital industry to raise awareness of the sector, their creativity, skills and achievements.

Siobhan ReddySiobhan Reddy, one of the UK’s most influential women and leading female gaming developer, Media Molecule, stated “This is a fabulous opportunity for girls wanting to make games to get some funding and manifest their dreams!  We change the future of games by making games in the ways that we want, about the subjects we want with the people that we gel with. I can’t wait to see the ideas that are put forward, and the people that come out of the woodwork.”

Head of Games & Digital at Creative England, Jaspal Sohal, shard,“We regularly support games studios across the English regions but we don’t see nearly enough female developers putting applications in.

“We know there are some incredible female devs out there, and it’s important for us work with the industry to even out the playing field. We hope that ‘Queen of Code’ will help women in the industry engage with us through this exciting collaboration with Crowdfunder, and ultimately enrich an already blossoming games sector in the UK.”

Phil GeraghtyPhil Geraghty, MD of Crowdfunder noted, “The Queen Of Code campaign is the first of many that we will be launching with Creative England, helping to fund and discover the best creative talent in England.”

“This particular campaign with Creative England is just what the industry needs to throw the spotlight on the fantastic talent the gaming industry has – and to amplify female voices and skills in what is often considered a male dominated sector.”

Girl game developers, writers, designers and coders can upload their crowdfunding project at any point which will then be placed into the Queen of Code Crowdfunder campaign.
