Brief: Toronto Commuters Launch Crowdfunding Site To Raise Funds For New Transit Route

Refusing to allow the city to deny them the route of their dreams, a group of  Toronto commuters have launched LineSixTransit to ask backers to donate money for a bus that runs between the Union Station and Liberty Village on weekday mornings.

Line SixThe description of the campaign stated, “Coming soon: a new way to travel between Liberty Village and the downtown core. The Liberty Village Express will whisk you between Union Station and Liberty Village every weekday morning. [This means] no more unpredictable delays and over-crowded commutes. Start your day right with a comfortable, reserved seat and service you can count on.”

In a form of spontaneous, civic crowdfunding, backers who give $25 or more will get a guaranteed seat on the Express every weekday during the first week of operations. For those who give $50 will have two guaranteed seats on the bus for one trip every weekday for one week. Finally anyone who donates $75 will be given two guaranteed seats on the bus for one trip every weekday for one week plus a free LineSix t-shirt.

It was noted that the eastbound bus would leave at 7, 7:45, 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. from the Pirandello and East Liberty Street intersection and had to the intersection of Front Street and University Avenue.

The pilot for the bus is set to run from October 6th to October 10th.
