The film references some of Argento’s previous horror productions, including Suspira and Dark Red.

Per its synopsis, The Sandman is about Nathan, a student in the city who struggles to forget his childhood trauma at the hands of the serial killer dubbed The Sandman, a masked killer who murders his victims with a lethally jagged melon spoon, and claims their eyes as trophies.

Nathan killed The Sandman years ago, on Christmas Eve, after he witnessed the murder of his mother until he sees the beautiful woman who lives in the apartment across the way dying at the hands of that same masked killer. This brutal murder plunges Nathan into an odyssey into the night country of his past, his dreams, and the buried secrets.

During a recent interview, Argento stated, “I was thrilled to read the script, because I recognized right away, this one was written for me. I’m so excited tht for the first time in my career, I will be able to involve my fans so early in the process and have them play an integral role in my next film. Also, working withIggy Pop is amazing.”

iggy popPop revealed that he has been a longtime fan of Argento’s work and described it as being “compellingly strange, beautiful and full of relentless terror.” He then added, “If I could play The Sandman for him it would make my life complete. I hope I have not just written my own epitaph.”

Those who fund the project will receive a wide range of rewards, including a personal message from Argento and Pop, set tours, and a even a role as a black-gloved killer in the film.

The campaign is set to close on November 8th.
