Dalai Lama Launches Crowdfunding Propelled by Two Major Contributions

Dalai Lama Foundation

In celebration of 14th Dalai Lama’s 80th birthday, nonprofit organization Dalai Lama Foundation hit Indiegogo to raise $150,000 for an interactive, online experience about the history of the public figure and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Not only did it receive over $55,000 during its first week, two backers gave major contributions of $20,000 and $30,000.

Living History of the Dalai Lama shares details about Tenzin Gyatso, who was born in 1935 on a farm in Taktser, Tibet. At 2-years-old, he was identified as the 14th Dalai Lama. Since then he has become one of the most recognizable leaders and advocates of world peace. Among his many honors and awards was his Nobel Peace Price, which he received in 1989.

The experience will include:

  • Dalai Lama 2A website portal that brings the experience of the Dalai Lama directly to you, whereever you are located.
  • A chronological presentation of the major events in the Dalai Lama’s extraordinary life.
  • An interactive map showing the many places around the world that the Dalai Lama has visited and spread his message of peace.
  • A searchable data base of rarely seen videos and photos of the Dalai Lama, as well as his speeches, talks and writings.
  • Success stories of people, groups and organizations that were inspired by the Dalai Lama.
  • A community where users can share stories, as well as post photos and videos through their social media.

The campaign’s organizers noted if funded, the filmmakers will enhance the interactive content, and produce an even more exciting and complete experience. If the campaign surpasses its goal and overfunds, the organizers can aim to start adding other funding rewards, such as Incubator for Peace: a program for social entrepreneurs to collaborate and further their organizations’ advocacy of peace.

Darlene MarkovichDuring a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, president and executive director of the Dalai Lama Foundation, Darlene Markovich stated, “The Living History of the Dalai Lama will bring the words and actions of this extraordinary man to people across the globe so that new generations of change makers will be motivated to further improve life on our planet.”

“As His Holiness approaches his 80th birthday next year, we know that now is the time to create the Living History. Join us as we celebrate the life and accomplishments of this extraordinary man. With your help and generous support, you can become a part of history in the making.”

Since its launch last week, the campaign has raised $55,126 from 57 backers. It is set to close on November 15th.
