Handheld Flamethrower Easily Tops Goal on Indiegogo

Flamethrower XM42

Are you ready for the Zombie Apocalypse?  Probably not, but if you back this crowdfunding campaign you may possess one of the most popular weapons in dealing with the walking dead.

The XM42 “Handheld Flamethrower”, a creation of ION Productions, was approved to launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo yesterday and backers rushed in to be the first person on their block to own their very own flame thrower.  In fact prior to campaign launch the small company behind this product had trouble keeping their web site live.  It took just 14 hours for the $40,000 goal to be topped and there are over 30 days left in the campaign. I have no idea what the backers will do with the XM42 before society collapses but it could come in handy when things go bad.

XM42 Flame throwerCampaign organizers DO point out practical uses of their flame device:

  • Clearing Snow and Ice
  • Eliminating Weeds between pavement cracks (really?)
  • Controlled burns
  • Insect Control (great for the big ones)
  • Pyrotechnic event displays
  • Bonfire starting
  • a fun device to enjoy with friends

Maybe the city of Boston wished they had an arsenal of these things to help clear the mountains of snow this year?

The first question you may ask, are these things legal?  Well in the country that loves guns – yes you may have a personal flame thrower. There are two states that have legislation banning ownership of the XM42 – California and Maryland – according to the campaign page.

Now as far as flame throwers go – this is a cool looking device. No bulky backpack necessary, the creators wanted to create something that not only worked well but was sexy to look at.  So how much does an Xm42 cost? $799. Shipping included.  You will have to wait until September for the handheld flamethrower to ship.
