Seeking the help of devoted fans, ZZ Top bandmate, Billy Gibbon has teamed up with Pura Vida Tequila to launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise $200,000 to begin expanding the new Texas-based brand.
Explaining why the brand is different from the rest, the Pura Vida Tequila team announced:
“Not all tequilas are created equal. Some tequilas may seem harsh or bitter tasting due to low agave content or lower production standards. This is one reason why the salt and lime ritual became associated with shooting the tequila shot. Pura Vida’s founder [and CEO], Stewart Skloss intentionally set out to produce a smoother tasting tequila for more sophisticated palates.”
Also noting why they have turned to Indiegogo for help, the team explained:
“Since inception we have rented production time from a small distillery where we produce Pura Vida to our exacting formulas. There was little remaining capacity at our old distillery and it was time to make a move. To rollout correctly, it’s essential we increase to full-time production at our own distillery in order to meet the demands of the new markets.”
USA Today shared that Skloss met Gibbon in high school, and the rocker has been on him for several years to invest. When Skloss demoed his tequila to Gibbons, which is made from distilled water, the guitarist was sold.
Revealing why he decided to join in on the tequila venture, Gibbon stated:
“I turned my back on tequila when I was 20, because it turned its back on me. But if you can get something in a bottle with a pleasing aroma, then we can talk.”
Explaining why he decided to use Indiegogo, Gibbon noted that the platform has a different mission than its competitor, Kickstarter, which is purely about raising money to get products made:
“This is crowdsourcing, and bringing awareness to whatever you’re branding or promoting.”
Since its debut on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th), the campaign has successfully raised over $23,000. It is set to close on June 5th.
