Creative England Debuts New iShorts Initiative on CrowdfunderUK to Find the Country’s Best New Filmmakers

Creative England has selected 19 new producer/director teams as part of the iShorts nationwide search to find the country’s best new filmmakers.

Creative EnglandiShorts is a short film initiative delivered as part of the BFI NET.WORK. Following hundreds of applications from aspiring filmmakers, the winning teams will each receive £5k of funding Creative England. In addition, each film-team has launched a project on the UK’s leading rewards-based crowdfunding platform, Crowdfunder – giving them a unique opportunity to raise further finance from the crowd, reach new audiences, and get their story onto the big screen.

Each project is offering a wide variety of rewards, including opportunities for cameo appearances in the films. Creative England is committed to supporting new film talent. In the last three and a half years, they have invested over £9million in film projects and helped 80 filmmakers make their first short film or their first feature production.

CrowdfunderThe iShorts campaign with Crowdfunder aims to promote some of the country’s brightest and best film talent. Chosen filmmakers hail from across the English regions, from Devon to Newcastle. And their stories range from a mountain-rescue drama to reincarnation, an outspoken comedian, to a serially depressed serial killer.

The chosen filmmakers will also receive editorial support, industry mentoring and networking opportunities via Creative England’s Talent Centres, as well as access to a bespoke training programme funded by Creative Skillset.

Caroline Norbury, CEO of Creative England said:

Caroline Norbury“This country is full of incredibly talented writers, directors and producers, but finding film finance can be a struggle.

“Creative England’s iShorts scheme offers the funding and support they need to get their film off the ground and, with the help of Crowdfunder, we hope the public will get behind them too. Let’s give our most talent filmmakers the best chance of making some outstanding films!”

Graeme Roy, Head of Marketing at Crowdfunder, added:

“We’ve got a great tradition of fantastic films in England and it’s brilliant to see the next generation of filmmakers using Crowdfunder. This campaign with Creative England will appeal to film-lovers, makers and producers across the world.”
