On Tuesday, Canada-based startup Myle Electronics took to crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to raise $50,000 for its new wearable “thought catcher” device, TAP.
TAP is lightweight, about the size of coat button, and easily attaches to a user’s clothing or other accessory for convenient access. It has built-in memory for 2000 messages and buffers all data util it automatically syncs with a user’s smartphone when in Bluetooth range. TAP is multilingual with the ability to convert audio to text in more than 40 languages. It is also compatible with hundreds of existing apps and features a customizable SDK platform allowing users to build their own apps. TAP has up to a 7-day battery life, is water resistant and is compatible with iOS and Android.
With TAP, users no longer have to scramble for a pen, find a recording device or make a mental note when a thought or idea occurs. Instead, users simply “tap” the wearable device and it records up to a 30-second audio note, transmits the data to the MYLE cloud where it is converted to text, and can then be pushed out to mobile or web applications that people use to manage life and work. As part of the crowdfunding campaign, Myle is offering backers a limited opportunity to preorder TAP for $79, which is nearly 50% off the $145 USD retail price. TAP is expected to begin shipping in Q4 of 2015.
Since its launch, TAP’s Indiegogo initiative has raised nearly half of its initial goal. It is set to close near the end of July.
