Gold Coast Brewers Black Hops Seeks Funds on Pozible to Open New Brewery

Black Hops, a Gold Coaster brewing company, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Pozible to begin expansion by opening its new brewery.

The company, which was established in 2014 by Michael McGovern, Dan Norris and Eddie Oldfield, declared:

Black Hops 2“Our journey began in September 2014 via a conversation at the pub and we’ve been sharing everything since then via our blog, podcast and social media. We are a few months away from opening our own brewery in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, and we are looking for your help to get us over the line.

“There were 2 things we loved about the craft beer scene in Australia. Number 1, Australians make great beer! Number 2, the craft beer community is an amazing group of people.

“We started Black Hops because we believe we can contribute to the great beer and we are passionate about sharing everything along the way to help the community, from casual drinkers, to home brewers and other craft brewers and bars.”

Black Hops also shared more details about where the funds are going towards:

“Our Pozible campaign will help us get the final funds together to ensure we open within budget, and we are able to sell bottled beer (something we weren’t originally planning on). it’s also a good opportunity for the broader craft beer community (you!) to be an important part in our story.”

The company also provided a funding portion chart:

During a recent interview with TheShout, McGovern stated:

Black Hops 1“We’ve been planning to open a brewery on the Gold Coast for just over 12 months now. We’ve raised a lot of money ourselves and have bought all of our equipment and we’ve secured a site. We are looking to do this crowdfunding campaign just to raise a few of the extra funds needed to get the doors open. Plus, also it will allow us to do bottling from day one. So one of the major rewards for the campaign is access to our first batch of beer, which will go into bottles; and that will be the Beach House, which is an Australian saison bar.

“The $10,000 will allow us to deliver the rewards, allow us to bottle the beer and allow us to get the doors open. We do have excess beer available, so we could potentially raise a lot more than that, depending on how popular the campaign is.”

In regards to what continues to drive the trio into getting the brewery off the ground, McGovern noted that ambition has helped:

Black Hops 3“Eddie, Dan and I have been mates for years and years. And when we get our heads around something we usually just go a it 100% and often we look back and say, ‘Holy sh*t, how did we get here?’”

Since its launch, the campaign has successfully secured the initial $10,000 goal. It is set to close on February 10th.
