What A Melon Dubbed Winner of The Crowdfunder Award

On Tuesday, Crowdfunder UK announced What a Melon was named winner of the 2016 Crowdfunder Award. This award was offered during the UK and Ireland’s pitch competition,  VOOM 2016.

According to Virgin Media Business, the competition gives entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses the opportunity to pitch their ideas to Sir Richard Branson and win a prize fund worth over £1million. Winners of the crowdfunding portion of the contest will receive the following:

• an additional £50K cash on top of funding
• a marketing and media support campaign
• a ticket to the VOOM 2016 final

The crowdfunding portal shared:

“The Crowdfunder Award was presented by Crowdfunder Chairman Rob Love at today’s finale of VOOM 2016, with the £50,000 pledge added to What A Melon’s project immediately by the Crowdfunder team LIVE from the audience! What A Melon was chosen as our winner due to their hugely creative marketing strategy and growth potential which made them a stand out from the very start. Olly and the team ran one of the most successful Crowdfunding projects in the competition, raising over £50,000 from over 100 backers and securing their place in the Crowdfunder five!”

Crowdfunder UK stated that #VOOM has been running over 14 weeks, including a huge public vote and a 29-hour Pitchathon (a Guinness World Record). The contest, which is set to end tonight, will feature the following panel of judges Richard Branson, Tyra Banks, Marcus Butler, Sara Blakely and Peter Kelly.

The website then added:

“Everyone who uploaded a pitch into Virgin Media Business‘s VOOM competition now has the opportunity to ‘Carry on Crowdfunding’.  Every Friday, the five who raise the most money will be considered by a panel from Virgin Media Business and Crowdfunder for that week’s prize of £1,000!
