With less than two weeks left until SeedInvest initiative comes to an end, creators of the Omni platform, Virtuix, have raised over $6.6 million. The company launched the Regulation A+ funding round earlier this year and quickly secured $2.5 million from approximately 500 investors in 24 hours.
The company successfully captured $1.1 million through Kickstarter and then another $8 million from private and institutional investors, which reportedly included Silicon Valley and global venture capitalists. Virtuix founder and CEO, Jan Goetgeluk previously shared with Crowdfund Insider:
“We’ve been on a tremendous journey in the past 4 years. I started working on the Omni in late 2011, long before VR was cool again. I quit my investment banking job and salary a year later to bring the Omni the market, and I invested all my life savings in preparations for our Kickstarter campaign in the summer of 2013. We raised $1.1MM on Kickstarter that year, and we raised $8MM afterwards over two seed rounds from investors including Mark Cuban and a series of VCs. Now we are a 31-people company, we started shipping our product, and we are getting ready to raise our Series A round via Regulation A.”
Recently, Virtuix announced it has formed a joint venture with Hero Entertainment, which has been dubbed the largest first-person shooter (FPS) game in China. Virtuix stated that Hero Sports would add VR eSports featuring the Virtuix Omni to its Hero Pro League. The venture will also convert Crisis Action, China’s most popular real-time, multiplayer FPS game, to VR gameplay with the Omni. Crisis Action has more than 400 million registered players. Virtuix also announced a strategic investment by Leyard, which will become an important customer and partner of the joint venture.
Virtuix’s campaign is set to close on July 30th.
