DELTA SIX Controller Provides A Realistic Take On First Person Shooters

First person shooters like Call of Duty are some of the most popular video games around, and the DELTA SIX controller currently on Kickstarter aims to make the experiences of these games even more immersive and realistic than they are today.

From the campaign page…

We love FPS, but things were getting a little repetitious for us. The thrill of playing was losing it’s mojo. We have found it again and it’s better than ever for us. We made a FPS controller that is like nothing you have ever experienced before. Our vision is to bridge the gap between motion control and Hardcore First Person Shooters. For the first time a Call of Duty player will feel more immersed in game-play and have more control over the game than ever before.

Some features being promised include…

  • Realistic recoil
  • Automatic zooming when the player brings the controller up to aim
  • Realistic reloads via tapping of the clip
  • “Hold breath” functionality when the stock is brought to the player’s shoulder (for sniping in some games)
  • A melee/slash action when the controller is motioned toward the screen

The product is designed by David Kotkin, an inventor who previously designed an Xbox controller mod called the Avenger. The Avenger allowed a player to hit up to nine buttons without removing his or her fingers from the analog sticks. Kotkin’s company, N-Control, came under fire in late 2011 over customer service concerns. Kotkin is a throat cancer survivor and his inventions are particularly useful to gamers with disabilities.

The controller itself looks amazing, but if I were a betting man I’d guess that parenting groups and gun control advocates may have something to say about this before all is said and done. We will see.
