Kung Fury is a campy movie done in classic 80’s over-the-top action style that is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, and the campaign is about to come to an end. Crowdfunding for the film will cease this Sunday, January 25th at about 11 AM EST.
Will Kung Fury hit $1 million in funding? That is where the film’s creators were aiming after a whale of a first day. A $1 million budget would give the creators enough working capital to create a feature-length film.
However, it seems almost impossible at this point. The campaign has raised $567,000 and change at the time of writing from just over 16,000 backers.
Will Kung Fury change the way we look at crowdfunded films? I certainly think it gives relatively unknown directors and producers an example to model their campaigns after, as opposed to efforts by Rob Thomas or Zach Braff. Those campaigns – for Veronica Mars and Wish I Was Here, respectively – were impressive in their own rights, no doubt, but were not necessarily relatable for those of us who haven’t already produced or starred in a hit TV series.
Of course, there are three days left…
