Equity crowdfunding platform Crowdcube has launched their very own venture fund to allow a professional fund manager do all the hard work in creating a diversified portfolio. Crowdcube has partnered with Strathtay Ventures who have over 15 years’ worth of expertise and a strong track record of investing in start-up and early stage businesses – the sweet spot for listings on the site. Established in 1997, Strathtay Ventures is the investment management subsidiary of Braveheart Investment Group. The Group currently has approximately £120m of funds under management across various regional and national funds.
Geoffrey Thomson will be the fund manager. Thomson is a founder and CEO of Braveheart. Thomson is recognized as an authority on investing in small businesses. He is also on the boar of the UK governments £50 million Angel CoFund.
The new fund hopes to build you a tax efficient, carefully selected investment portfolio from the companies listed on Crowdcube.
Available only to Crowdcube members, investing via the Crowdcube Venture Fund offers a way to invest in UK businesses without spending your time on due diligence. Fund participation begins at £2500. Of course there is still significant risk to investing in small enterprises and startups but portfolio diversification is an important tactic for any investor.
