Ready to make a few changes to the kitchen’s number one appliance, Seattle startup Meld recently hit Kickstarter with a mission to raise $50,000 for self-titled temperature controlling stovetop knobs.

“We invented the Meld Knob + Clip to help you cook the perfect meal every time. Whether slow cooking, simmering, sous vide, poaching, frying or even candy making.”

The Meld Knob + Clip is described as an automated range knob that attaches to cooktops and wirelessly communicates with a precision temperature sensor. By using the company’s iPhone or Android app, the device monitors the temperature of what the user is cooking and makes automatic adjustments to the gas or electric range. This will ensure the perfect dish, no matter what.

During a recent interview with Geek Wire, co-founder of Meld, Darren Vengroff stated:

“Sous Vide is something not everyone is going to do. The question was, can we actually do something to bring that level of precision to the stovetop and to cooking techniques that normal people use everyday?

“You already have a great source of a lot of heat – you just have no control. That’s the missing part. We have this ability to create a device that people will interact with on a near-daily basis, and to me that’s really interesting.”

Meld 3Vengroff also shared that Meld’s cooking products will appeal to anyone looking to their kitchen a-game to the next level.

“We can let that person really concentrate on the concept and flavors, like deciding whether to put tarragon or dill in a particular sauce. They can spend all their time creating fantastic dishes, knowing that their sauce will simmer at the right temperature for the right amount of time while they roast the chicken and potatoes that go with the meal.”

Since its debut, Meld’s campaign has successfully raised over $44,000 from nearly 400 backers. It is set to close on May 8th.
