The Coolest Cooler burst onto the crowdfunding scene hoping to raise a mere $50,000. A re-do of a failed Kickstarter project from the year prior, creator Ryan Grepper spent several months assessing what worked, and what went wrong, before re-launching his crowdfunding project that closed at over $13 million. It held the title of most funded ever on Kickstarter until this past March when Pebble showed up for a victory lapped and topped $20 million.
Now almost a year later, Coolest Cooler is nearing backer fulfillment. Is delivery late? Yes. But will backers receive their promised perks? It looks pretty good.
In a backer update Grepper explained the fulfillment timeline;
“If you’ve been following our weekly production updates at Coolest/Countdown, then you know we’ve been working like mad to complete the pre-manufacturing phase exactly as we laid out last November.
“We are on track, and we will begin our phased rollout of Coolest Coolers next month in July. ”
“As we’ve mentioned in the last couple of updates, the factories can’t possibly make 60,000+ units in a month so not every backer will get a Coolest Cooler this summer (See below for full details). That’s why I’d like to THANK you all again for being part of Kickstarter and this campaign.”
Coolest signed up with Dragon Innovation to assist with manufacturing and shipping. Designing a new product and getting it delivered at scale is no small task. Grepper made a solid decision when he partnered with an experienced group of production specialists.
Grepper also stated that early purchasers will be receiving a product that will eventually retail at $485.00. This is a significant premium to what backers paid. Of course the downside is they have to wait.
So the Coolest Cooler is looking pretty good. Some backers will be able to enjoy this souped up cooler this summer. Others will have to wait a bit longer.
