“Mighty No. 9” Kickstarter Backers Struggle With Code Issues & Game Expectations

Today’s the big day! Keiji Inafune and comcept USA’s Kickstarter project, Mighty No. 9, was finally delivered to North American and Asian backers after numerous delays. The game surfaced on the crowdfunding platform in summer 2013 and secured over $3.8 million from 62,000 backers.

Unfortunately, there’s already been some major issues since the game made its debut. Just hours after the game’s codes were released, backers flooded the game’s Kickstarter page revealing that they hadn’t received the codes, or the codes weren’t working at all.

The Mighty No. 9 team stated for some platforms there is a bit of time lag between the release of the game in store, and the time when the codes become effective. If it doesn’t work right away, to try again later.

Another issue was that Inafune and his team were struggling to get the game on Xbox. They addressed the situation with the game console:

Mighty No. 9 1“There were issues regarding the publishing process for the Xbox 360 version of the game, and a certification bug was found in the final round of testing which is delaying the release of that version for several days. Our team has already re-submitted the build to Deep Silver (and to Microsoft), and we expect it to go gold within a few days if all goes according to plan. For the backers who chose that platform we are supplying Steam keys so that those users are not left behind on release day. Once the Xbox 360 version is ready for release we will send out those codes to the relevant backers ASAP.”

The team also confirmed that the Mac/Linux Steam builds of the game are currently in final testing by Deep Silver. These two versions of the game should be ready within a few days as well. We will keep our backers updated as the situation evolves.

Those that were able to access the game also revealed they were disappointed by the game’s play. Inafune addressed the criticism during the livestream:

mighty-4“The reality is they put everything into making this game. They didn’t try to microtransaction it out, they didn’t try to DLC it out for extra money. They put it all in. So, for now, this is what you see and what you get, for the Mighty No. 9 world. But, again, we can hope that if things go well, there’ll be sequels. Because I’ll tell you what, I’m not getting my 2D side-scrolling fill. And at the end of the day, even if it’s not perfect, it’s better than nothing. At least, that’s my opinion.”
