Quick Q&A with Founder CH Pinhas as LOVE Turntable nears $670K on Kickstarter

Closing in on $670K, LA-based LOVE Turntable’s Kickstarter campaign easily surpassed its stretch goal with the help of over 1918 backers with 15 days remaining on the campaign. The startup flew past its initial goal within hours of launching its campaign which brings its smartphone-controlled turntable to market. Funding from the campaign will aid in the manufacturing process.

What will LOVE do for you? All you need is LOVE? Crafted by industrial designer Yves Béhar, LOVE turntable’s design is reminiscent of the sculptural and expressive forms of musical instruments. Sonos-endorsed and aiming to elevate the interaction between music lovers and their vinyl, LOVE enables users to enjoy the warmth of analog while eliminating the need to set each track meticulously.

LOVE scans any record with its linear tracking sensor to determine the size of the record and number of tracks, and with a simple tap on the top of its shell, users can turn the turntable on and off as well as skip to the next track. LOVE spins on top of a record, which remains still, utilizing a traditional cartridge and stylus to maintain the tactile experience and classic sound that vinyl lovers seek. No additional weight is placed on the grooves, therefore preserving the integrity of the record.

Citing spiked record sales, Pinhas set a goal “to make it simple for anyone to enjoy the natural melodies and pure traditional sound of analog through the convenience of modern-day technology.” Via email, founder and CEO CH Pinhas shared insight regarding the successful Kickstarter campaign.

Erin: What makes crowdfunding an easier process than alternatives? Any anecdotes, i.e. test records?

CH: The first few hours of the campaign were really exciting as we had one new backer every minute. Crowdfunding allows to finance the production development faster than what is possible otherwise. Crowdfunding also brings a lot of media exposure in a short amount of time. We were covered by big media from tech oriented ones to mainstream journals all over the world, in France, Korea, Germany, Canada.

Erin: Did you shop around other platforms, i.e. Indiegogo? What led you to Kickstarter?

CH: No, we’ve always been huge fans of Kickstarter and it came rather naturally that LOVE should be launch on their platform.  Kickstarter provides a unique exposure in a short time frame. Kickstarter also provides credibility. We had to show our working prototype, prove that our project was ready for production.

Erin: Have you ever backed a campaign?

CH: Yes. I have a few times for a cable and a laptop accessory.

Erin: Love Turntable has easily surpassed its initial $50,000 goal and $400K stretch goal. What will LOVE do with the additional funding?

CH: This allows us to shorten the development time frame and at the same time work on future versions and accessories. We’ve already patented new versions and upgrades, it is all very confidential but I can say we are working on a version with speakers, and wireless charging.

LOVE Turntable’s Kickstarter campaign remains live until Mar 8 2017 5:41 PM CET.
