Digital Asset Firm Gemini Launches in Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Czechia, Latvia, Liechtenstein

Gillian Lynch, Head of Ireland and EU operations at Gemini, notes that the digital asset firm is pleased “to announce that individuals and institutions in Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Czechia, Latvia, and Liechtenstein can now open a Gemini account to deposit, trade, and custody over 100 cryptocurrencies.”

Consumers can “securely access Gemini’s website or mobile app to buy cryptocurrencies with Euros (EUR) and Pound Sterling (GBP) with a debit card, bank transfer, or using Apple Pay or Google Pay.”

More advanced traders “can use ActiveTrader, [their] high-performance crypto trading interface that delivers a professional-level experience, featuring advanced charting, and multiple order types.”

Gemini’s institutional-grade, crypto-native platform is now “available to financial institutions, fintechs, and corporations, with custody, clearing, trade execution, price discovery, and portfolio management services all in one place.”

Launching in these six countries “represents further progress in Gemini’s continued roll out across Europe, which is built on a foundation of positive engagement with regulators and policymakers to obtain relevant authorizations and registrations.”

Going live in these jurisdictions follows Gemini’s recent “launch in Ireland, where Gemini was the first company to register with the Central Bank of Ireland as a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP), and is authorized as an electronic money institution.”

As covered in September 2022, the team at Gemini is pleased to announce a partnership with Betterment, which claims to be one of the largest independent digital investment advisors in the U.S., in order “to begin offering crypto investment portfolios to customers across its retail and Betterment for Advisors offerings.”

Betterment’s forthcoming crypto offering will “enable customers to invest in curated crypto portfolios constructed from digital assets listed on the Gemini Exchange, and we will act as Betterment’s crypto custodian.”

By integrating with Gemini, Betterment customers will be “able to gain exposure to the crypto asset class to further diversify their long term investment portfolios on a platform that they already know and trust.”

Starting in October 2022, Betterment customers “will have access to expert-built crypto portfolios, assembled by Betterment, through their accounts, and Betterment for Advisors’s partners will have the ability to offer crypto to their clients.”

Betterment has over 730,000 customers “across all of its business lines and offerings.”

Paget Stanco, Principal, Business Development at Gemini, said (in September 2022):

“We are delighted to expand our institutional partnerships through this Betterment integration. Through our suite of institutional products, we provide crypto infrastructure solutions to a growing number of asset managers, financial institutions, and platforms on a global scale. Our partnership with Betterment further cements Gemini as a leader in providing secure and compliant access to crypto.”
