Shovel Knight, a multi-platform game, has crowdfunded $311,502 on Kickstarter far surpassing their $75,000 goal. The crowdfunding campaign was supported by 14,749 backers. Shovel Knight is a product of LA based Yacht Club Games.
Stretch goals were incorporated into the crowdfunding effort to help boost interest and support for the project. Also – as has become the norm for Game crowdfunding – donations for the project have continued off Kickstarter via a paypal donation page.
The target release date for the game is the Winter of 2013.
The recent high profile success of crowdfunding for games has created a surge in utilizing the Kickstarter platform for video games. Game crowdfunding continues to be the second most popular category on Kickstarter having raised over $117 Million to date.
