Mighty No. 9 is Next Game Crowdfunding Over $1 Million

Mighty No. 9 on KickstarterHeralding from Tokyo based independent studio comcept USA, a Japanese game design and dev studio launched in 2006, is potentially the next big game crowdfunding success.

Mighty No. 9 just fired up their crowdfunding project last week on August 31st.  Stated goal was to raise $900,000.  As of today the campaign is well over $1.2 Million quickly capturing the support of an incredible 22,000 backers.  The campaign still has about 4 weeks to go, so there is ample time to ratchet up this number.

The initial goal was surpassed in an amazing 40 hours.  In a note to supporters the organizers shared their appreciation for the strong support:

Mighty No. 9To all our Mighty Backers (Beckers?) and fans and supporters–

You have spoken. You have spoken with your pledges and emails and comments and tweets and videos and fan art and…in every way possible, you have spoken, and your message — not just to us, but to the entire gaming community — is crystal-clear: This style of classic Japanese action-game isn’t dead; it just needs a fresh perspective! It needs to transform like our hero, Beck, into something both familiar -and- completely new.

Not only did you pass our initial goal — in less than 40 hours, on a holiday weekend no less! — but you went ahead and crushed our first stretch goal as well. We now have our game guaranteed funded, and with 8 full stages and 8 full bosses! All this, and we’re just getting started…

Keiji InafuneMighty No. 9 is a new Japanese “slide scrolling” action game that takes aspects of  8 and 16 bit classic games and transforms them into modern versions.  The development is being handled by veteran Japanese game creators with deep experience in such games as Mega Man.  The game is being developed for the PC with other platforms, such as Mac and Linux being on the list if the stretch goals are hit.  The team is being led by well known game creator Keiji Inafune who is team lead and has been involved with Mega Man all the way back to … 1987.

Hey – even Yancey Strickler, Kickstarter Co-Founder, is a backer of this project so you know it’s going to be big.

We will all know how big it will be on October 1st, 2013.
