If any other crowdfunding campaign raised $750,000 in one 24-hour period we’d be screaming it from the rooftops and celebrating a massive success. For Cloud Imperium Games and Star Citizen, it’s just another day at the office. Oh, and they raised over $650,000 on Saturday. But hey, no big deal.
We reported yesterday that the campaign hit $30 million in funding. Today it’s approaching a total of $32 million in funding from the crowd thanks to over 314,000 of Chris Roberts’s newest, closest friends.
It also bears mentioning that today is the one-year anniversary of the launch of the campaign to crowdfund Star Citizen. To celebrate, the team behind the upcoming space sim is hosting a four hour livestream event. It kicks off at 11 AM pacific time, 2 PM eastern. They’re also offering two special in-game ships for sale today.
We’re offering two special ships available for sale for the next 24-hours: the promised Banu Merchantman and the Xi’An Scout ship. Both of these ships were unlocked by Star Citizen backers, and they both represent how additional funding is allowing us to expand the games in new and exciting ways. Remember, all of these ships will be available in the finished game. Purchases today help Star Citizen’s development!
If you aren’t familiar with the game, Star Citizen has an underlying economy where players (and backers during the campaign) can buy ships to play with and own in-game. Many of the reward levels deal with in-game upgrades and perks. It’s certainly a key ingredient in the recipe for success for Cloud Imperium.
To put the sheer amount of money in perspective, Star Citizen has raised an average of over $85,000 a day for the last year straight. Market: proven.
