Draper Family Crowdfunds For Parkinson’s on Indiegogo

Bill Draper IndiegogoHits $100,000 Crowdfunding Goal Immediately.

Bill Draper, along with his family, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in support of the Parkinson’s Insitute and Clinical Center.  The fundraising initiative which is part of the #GivingTuesday effort on Indiegogo, has greatly benefited from the promise from Draper to match dollar for dollar every contribution – up to $100,000.  Parkinsons Institute LogoIndiegogo also helped out as part of their contribution of the #GivingTuesday event as they matched $1 for every $20 raised.

The Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center was founded over two decades ago by a group of experts dedicated to provide better care for Parkinson’s sufferers and committed to research for a cure for the debilitating disease.  The Institute’s approach to care goes beyond a typical clinical approach.  Patients become partners in developing their care plans thus improving their quality of life, and discovering new strategies to confront and manage their disease. The Institute sees over 3500 patients each year.  Their mission is to combine their research with personalized care and therapy.

Parkinsons Institute Cycle of CareThe Institute is the United States only independent non-profit organization that provides basic and clinical research, clinical trials and patient care for Parkinson’s disease and related neurological movement disorders, all under one roof. They want to find the causes of Parkinsons and discover a cure.

Bill Draper is scion of one of the great Venture Capital groups in California.  His son Tim Draper runs the well known Draper Fisher Jurvetson VC group.  Bill draper was impacted by Parkinson’s first hand as his wife Phyllis, whom he asked to marry three days after meeting her, suffers from the disease.  In a touching recollection, Draper shares how his wife was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.   Eventually as the disease progressed she needed assistance and they discovered the Parkinson’s Institute where she eventually received care.

Parkinsons we are in this togetherThe campaign has benefited from several sizable contributions – all matched by Draper’s donations.  They have also received many smaller donations.  The campaign continues until January 31, 2014.  As Draper says – “Let’s get our Indiego on the Gogo”.  See the pitch video below.
