The Kreyos Meteor, the “Only smart watch with voice & gesture control”, originally had a rewards ship date of November 2013. With November long gone and 2104 fast approaching some backers of the hot tech crowdfunding campaign have become frustrated by the delay.
Back in August, Kreyos had a big crowdfunding hit on Indiegogo having raised over $1.5 Million on a target of “only” $100,000. Well over 11,000 supporters put their money towards this device. The hands free device is designed to integrate with either your iOS, Android or Windows phone using Bluetooth. More of an extension of your smartphone, Kreyos allowed you to answer calls directly on your wrist. The sleek looking watch also doubled as an activity tracker and was poised to give Pebble some competition.
Several weeks ago, as frequently is the case, in a backer update Steve Tan, Kreyos Co-Founder, announced to his supporters of an unexpected delay. During ongoing development of the product an issue with the speaker positioning was causing reduced quality in sound which was unacceptable. Understandably – the company wants to ship a quality product and the delivery date was pushed to February 2014.

And so began our dilemma! The reduction in sound quality wasn’t horrible. In fact, many companies might have simply continued with production to meet their delivery date estimate.
But we want you to be happy with your Meteor smartwatch!
So after much internal debate and discussions with some of our backers, we decided to make a number of production changes to improve speaker quality – even though those changes would take time and result in a one-month production delay.
We hope that you will agree that the 25% increase in the speaker’s volume is well worth the short wait!
In a more recent update it appears a more final prototype will be making an appearance at CES 2014. The consumer electronics show is a must go event for many electronics manufacturers (the exception being Apple who just goes to look around).
Kreyos is planning to unveil the Meteor smartwatch at the Consumer Electronics Association’s 2014 International CES show, slated for January 7-10, 2014 in Las Vegas!
This will be the first time that the public will have a chance to see the Meteor in action – and if you are going to be there, we would love for you to stop by and visit us at our booth (Booth 26915 South Hall 2).
CES is the world’s gathering place for those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. Featuring more than 3,200 exhibitors unveiling consumer products and services across 15 product categories, the show draws huge crowds and receives extensive press coverage. With the Meteor slated for distribution to our backers in mid February, this is the perfect time to unveil the watch to the conference attendees.
Successful crowdfunding campaigns frequently bring challenges which are not always expected. An appearance at CES should be somewhat re-assuring to backers. We will all finally know come February though.
