SunFunder, a solar crowdfunding business based in San Francisco & Tanzania, is dedicated to financing emerging market solar energy. The platform connects social investors to solar projects that improve the lives of low income communities in developing countries around the world. Their first projects have been in Africa and more recently they announced projects in India. The platform allows individuals to “invest” in projects but the repayment is principle only at this time. In the future they expect to become an investment platform but for now they want to expand solar energy around the world as a clean, renewable and much needed source of energy.
For the past two years SunFunder has been launching projects and to date they have experienced 100% repayment. They have recently announced their 5th fully repaid project after receiving the final repayment of 1200 more solar lights for Copperbelt. The project benefited students and teachers in the Copperbelt district of Zambia with low-cost solar lanterns sold by SunnyMoney. Over 140 contributors backed this project.
