University of Maryland Launches Own Crowdfunding Site: Launch UMD

Launch UMDThe University of Maryland has launched their very own crowdfunding platform:  Launch UMD.  The site is designed for both students and faculty to raise funding on “impactful projects”.  Organizers hope the platform will help facilitate change via innovation

Launch UMD fired up their platform with 5 live projects including:

  • UMD Chamber Singers trip to the 10th World Symposium on Choral Music in Seoul, South Korea
  • Queer Camp, a Community-Building Retreat for LGBTQ and Allied Students
  • UMD’s Engineers Without Borders trip to Ethiopia
  • Public Health Without Borders trip to Sierra Leone
  • The Mighty Sound of Maryland’s purchase of a new equipment van

Brian Logue, director of alumni participation, commented on the new platform;

“For the University of Maryland, LAUNCH UMD is a terrific way for alumni and friends to connect intimately with causes that are important to them.  These projects are excellent examples of how small gifts can make a huge difference.”

The platform may be used at no charge for campus groups.  Additional campaigns are expected to launch in the Fall of 2014.  The platform is powered by ScaleFunder online giving engine.
