Many countries around the globe are pushing forward with investment crowdfunding viewing the new form of finance as a powerful tool to boost economic growth by funding small companies. It is a new world order though with little precedent to guide. The British have spearheaded the charge and so far, it appears, they have got it right. In the United States presently we only have accredited crowdfunding – only available to the elite few.
In Bangkok, Thailand, last week Crowdfunding Asia organized an event sponsored by the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission thus signaling the importance of crowdfunding to their economic future. None other than SEC Secretary (and Wharton Grad) Dr. Varapol Socatiyanurak, opened the two day gathering as Thailand prepares to release investment crowdfunding rules.
