In an effort to revolutionize the way consumers enjoy their cup ‘o’ joe, UK startup IKAWA has launched a new crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise funds for its new micro-roaster.
Sharing details about the new roaster, founder of IKAWA, Andrew Stordy explained:
“Our micro-roaster is perfect for anyone who loves fantastic coffee – your very first roast will be perfect; the green coffee beans we supply come with a recommended roast recipe which the roaster follows precisely. Then you can start to get adventurous and use our IKAWA app to change the duration, temperature and even airflow in the machine to open up a world of flavors.”
Among the types of coffee IKAWA can make include: Cafetière, Pour-over, Espresso, AeroPress, and Moka pot or Filter. Notably the time to make each type will only take anywhere between it will take between 3 and 10 minutes.
Other features of IKAWA include:
- Fully customizable roast recipes
- The ability to share roast recipes by using Facebook, Twitter and the startup’s forum
- Sleek and lightweight (only 9.5lbs)
- iOS and Android compatible
The startup has been working with coffee producers to source the finest quality green coffee beans from origins such as Burundi, Ethiopia, Brazil and Guatemala, renowned amongst coffee connoisseurs for their distinctive flavor profiles.
Since its creation in 2006, IKAWA has gone on to be a finalist for Best New Product at Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) 2012 for the first Professional Roaster and was finalist in Business Global Social Venture Competition of Berkeley University in 2011.
Those looking to purchase the roaster may do so through the crowdfunding campaign now for the price of £550. Other perks for backing the project include 1 year supply of green coffee beans and top quality coffee from 6 iconic origins with recommended roast recipes,
Since its launch on Thursday, the IKAWA has raised over half its initial £80,000 goal. It is set to close on May 31st.
