Curiosity Kills Ltd. Returns to Seedrs For Film’s Third Crowdfunding Campaign Following Director’s Arrest

Curiosity Kills Ltd., the production firm behind the upcoming film Welcome to Curiosityrecently launched a third equity crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs to raise another £30,000 following a series of problems on the set.

Welcome to Curiosity 2According to Insider MediaWelcome to Curiosity is first hit the crowdfunding platform in June 2014 when it captured £50,000. The crime-thriller’s crew then returned in September and reached £20,000 to pay for the remaining 14 days of filming. The synposis reads:

“A heist followed by betrayal, a serial killer on the loose, a lunatic out of the asylum, a girl stepping out with a very bad man and a salesman with a vivid imagination. Five tales following five groups of people whose lives are all interconnected without them knowing it but all sharing one thing in common: curiosity kills.”

Starring in the film are Rush‘s Cristian Solimeno and Eastenders actor Richard Blackwood. Unfortunately, in December the film’s director and commercial head, Ben Pickering was arrested and sentenced to six year in prison for his role in a mortgage fraud case that is worth more than 5 million.

Now the film’s producer and writer, Darren Ripley, has taken the director’s role and returned to Seedrs to raise the final £30,000 to complete and distribute the project. The platform notably stated that it had conducted an investigation and found no evidence that the project was connected to Pickering’s criminal activities:

Welcome to Curiosity 1“A number of investors have expressed a desire to invest more into the film in order to get the project over the line. We at Seedrs are happy to accommodate this, provided that there has been full disclosure of the circumstance around Ben’s conviction, as well as ensuring there are no other issues which could jeopardize the investor’s investment. We have agreed that this campaign will only be a private campaign open to the current investors.”

While updating investors on the film’s progress, Ripley noted that a new trailer is currently in the works for the film, but was not left with anything else until the funding target has been hit on the latest crowdfunding campaign:

Ben Pickering and Darren Ripley“I also have at least two distributors who are potentially interested in releasing our movie as soon as it is ready. I really want to capitalize on Richard Blackwood’s recent success and publicity with Eastenders. His presence at the screening could generate enough publicity to sell quite a few units.”

The crowdfunding campaign is set to close at mid-September.
