Cat in a Flat, a London-born cat sitting community, has launched a Crowdcube campaign to raise £50,000 so that it can expand its already successful business.

Cat in a Flat, which was founded in 2014 by cat lovers Julie Barnes Cat in a Flat 4and Kathrin Burckhardt, is described as an online cat-sitting service and community that connects feline owners with insured and local sitters:

“Our mission is to help our furry friends stay in the comforts of their own home while the owner is away. No more stress, no more catteries, no more guilt.”

Noting how the service works, the Cat in the Flat team explained:

“Our digital platform connects sitters and owners, to empower cat lovers to help each other in a trusted community. Cat owners can pick and choose vetted sitters by personality, testimonial or rate – the ‘uberfication’ of pet sitting with the people trust of Airbnb.

“Cat sitters get to spend time with furry clients and not have to worry about pet bills or long-term care, and best of all they get paid to do it! All our cat sitters go through a personal on-boarding process that automatically insures them. We provide them with their own personal webpage, as well as service agreement contracts and a secure payment and booking system.”

Cat in a Flat 3The free service is available for those 18 and older. The company noted that it takes a percentage of the payment as a service charge from the sitter for every booking received. This fee also includes its ‘pay-as-you-go’ insurance premiums. This is only £1.50.

In regards to the sitter checks, Cat in a Flat noted:

“We estimate around 60% of our sign-ups love cats but can’t have one of their own (landlord won’t let them, partner is allergic, can’t commit to long-term care), so they see this as a great opportunity to get their ‘furry face fix.’”

Cat in a Flat’s Crowdcube initiative is set to close at the beginning of December.
