Dutch Brewing Company Heineken Debuts Indiegogo Campaign to Restore Miami Marine Stadium

This week, Heineken launched a crowdfunding initiative on Indiegogo to raise $100,000 so that it may help restore the famous Miami Marine Stadium. The Dutch brewing company has formed a partnership with National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the City of Miami for this project.

Heineken 4This project is part of the Indiegogo-Heineken Cities Campaign. Earlier this spring, Indiegogo announced it joined forces with Heineken, for the new initiative. The global crowdfunding platform revealed residents in New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and Honolulu are invited to submit projects they care about through Heineken’s Facebook page. These projects can involve anything that may create a strong impact on the cities. Ten finalists will be selected and interviewed by Heineken’s team of experts, and then five projects will be selected to run a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, with $20,000 matched and marketing support from both companies.

Heineken previously expressed interest in helping the Miami Marine Stadium as well.

“Once serving as an iconic hub for major concerts and other prominent arts and cultural events, the Miami Marine Stadium has gone dormant for years. Heineken, the National Trust and other partners will run a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to generate support for this important project.”

The Miami Marine Stadium, which was constructed in 1963, features more than 6,500 seats. Heineken states that the structure is considered a “monumental achievement in civic architecture and modern construction.” Unfortunately in 1992, the stadium was severely damaged by Hurricane Andrew, and it was abandoned.

Senior vice president of marketing at Heineken USA, Ralph Rijks, stated:

Heineken 3“For many years, Miamians have shown an incredible passion and strong desire to restore Miami Marine Stadium, and that’s why it’s a perfect for the Heineken Cities campaign. We’re support amazing projects across the country in an effort to make great cities like Miami even greater. By creating a movement in South Florida and beyond, we hope to reenergize the effort to bring the stadium back to life and ready for future generations to enjoy.”

Heineken also noted, in addition to the Indiegogo campaign, the company will provide $20,000 in matching funds and will plan on-the-water events, retail activations, and a concert. These events will help raise awareness for the project.
