Kickstarter Funded Yooka-Laylee Releases Toybox Demo (Video)

This week, creators of the Kickstarter-funded project, Yooka-Layleereleased the demo for the standalone gameplay experience, The Toybox. Playtonic Games revealed details about The Toybox this past spring and described it as self-contained, spoiler-free sandbox designed to give Yooka-Laylee backers a taste of the platforming to come in the final game.

Yooka Laylee 2Yooka-Laylee is described as a 3D platforming adventure for consoles and PC. During its run on the crowdfunding giant’s platform, the video game successfully captured £2,090,104 from 73,206 backers. Playtonic Games launched the funding initiative with the intention to raise only $175,000 for 90’s Banjo-Kazooie successor and within only a matter of days, the project not only surpassed it initial goal, it secured $1.3M.

Backers who opted for backing tiers that include The Toybox or Toybox+ received their codes via BackerKit. The game studio reported:

Our intention with The Toybox is to offer our loyal backers the chance to be the first people outside Platonic to try out Yooka-Laylee’s core mechanics, and we’ll also be gathering your feedback on stuff like controls, cameras, and movement.”

The Toybox is currently available for PC, Linux, and Mac via Steam. See 27 minutes of the demo below (provided by Polygon). Yooka Laylee is set to be delivered this October.
