On Friday, Yu Suzuki and his team at Ys Net announced the original Shenmue director, Keiji Okayasu, has returned to direct Kickstarter success Shenmue III.
The crew stated in a recent update:
“Taking a look at end credits of Shenmue you may noticed this man’s name—Keiji Okayasu. He was the Game Director for Shenmue I, then played a big role through most of Shenmue II, and has now joined the production team for Shenmue III. We are very happy to have back this Shenmue veteran who helped deliver the goods the first time around, and look forward to him doing it again.”
Last year, Suzuki and his team at Ys Net took to Kickstarter with a mission to raise $2 million for the game’s development and launch. During its run, the campaign successfully secured over $6,333,295 from 69,320 backers. The game will be available for both PC and PlayStation 4. Sony, where the original games were launched, is helping to market and produce Shenmue III, but will not be receiving any of the funds that were raised through the funding initiative.
