Spontly, a fan app platform that specializes in football, rugby, golf and tennis has raised 93% of its £200,000 funding goal with less than two weeks on the equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs. The platform enables sports fans to stay up-to-date with their favorite club teams and eliminate the inconvenience of having to check multiple apps.
The company revealed its platform is comprised of branded apps for supporters of what currently stands at over 200 sports clubs. The majority of these are communities created for fans of professional, senior sports clubs. Net Promoter Scores previously confirmed fans love the product, and further feedback from users has also helped identify how to improve the platform. Funds from the campaign will be used to sustain the platform and to improve the commentary and play statistic quality on the app.
Spontly CEO Jim Mann explained why he and his team decided to use the crowdfunding method:
“Crowdfunding is a natural fit for us. We’ve always wanted to give fans a sense of ownership and belonging in their communities. That’s why we have individual apps for each club rather than an all-in-one solution. It fits with our ethos, offering fans a financial stake in what we are building. And with the minimum stake being just £10 we’ve made the opportunity accessible for everyone.”
Mann went on to add:
“An aggregated back-end and database solution means we can offer sponsorship, advertising and marketing solutions right across the network. We’ve proved our apps work with very little marketing spend, we’ve built strong communities and we have a great team in place to take this business forwards. The next steps for us will involve a combination of selling sponsorship and improving the product. Our fan base is fantastic and they tell us what they want, so we now need to get on and build the features that they are asking us for.”
The campaign is set to close mid-September.
