With less than two weeks until its crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube comes to an end, London’s Cauli Rice has successfully secured over £700,000.
Cauli Rice offers a low calorie and low GI rice replacement, with 80% fewer calories but with the same taste as white rice. It’s great for rice lovers looking to avoid the fattening calories. The company sought funds through its first campaign on Crowdcube to launch its 200g pouches in UK supermarkets.
The company shared:
“There are more than 1 bilion overweight & obese adults worldwide. The World Health Organisation estimates that globally, 44% of diabetes, 23% of ischaemic heart disease and 7-41% of certain cancers are attributable to overweight & obesity. It’s because of health concerns such as these that dieting has become a part of everyday life.
“Looking at the most popular diets of 2013, nearly all of these can be classified as Low Carb/ Low-GI diets where people try to cut or reduce high calorie rice, bread, pasta from their meals. But despite the surge of new Low-Carb or Low-GI products flooding the market, none are able to give the same Full Meal Satisfaction traditionally provided by starchy foods. This is where we saw the opportunity – to find a product that could fill the gap of starchy foods but without the calories.”
In the past, Cauli Rice has attracted major investors, including Virgin’s Richard Branson. It was even dubbed Top 3 Startup in 2015 Pitch To Rich business competition & winner of 2015 Virgin Foodpreneurin the Retail category.
Cauli Rice has also been launched in Tescos, Waitrose, ASDA, Whole Foods Market and with wholesalers. The company announced that over the next few months it is scheduled to launch in Holland & Barret stores.
Recently, the CauliRice announced a brand update:
The company also released a new advertising campaign (see below).
The campaign is set to close on November 10th.
