SEC Forum Considers Obstacles To Small Business Capital Formation

The Securities and Exchange Commission is sending fresh signals that it intends to modify rules governing small private and public companies to give them greater access to capital, but the agency faces a wide range of views on how to balance this against its mandate to protect investors.

At the SEC’s annual forum on small business capital formation Thursday in Washington, all five commissioners addressed the importance of small businesses in creating jobs and Chairwoman Mary Schapiro said she has instructed her staff to take a “fresh look at some of our offering rules.”
