Kickstarter For Female Miniatures Raises $370K

There are a couple of nice perks that come along with covering the crowdfunding space in depth.

One perk is that we constantly find ourselves stumbling upon crazy tech that seems a generation or two ahead of its time. A second perk is that it educates me on niche demand that I’m not privvy to. Chalk this project up in that category.

A project for female gaming miniatures has raised over $350K from over 1,700 people. Wow.

Hundreds of people have pledged over $150 to receive a host of rewards including a box of figurines. These figurines can be used as game pieces for any tabletop RPG game, or just displayed as cool art on your desk.

One thing to note from this campaign is how the rewards have been tiered. It’s pretty clever. There were a limited number of $150 packages (50) that sold out, so the project creator basically recreated the same reward level at $152. When those sold out they did it again at $154. This provides an air of scarcity while rewarding those that get in early. Eventually I presume the project creator got sick of having to create a new reward level every day and now sells that level for $165 with no cap. Clever strategy.
