Classified: The Edward Snowden Story promises to be a dramatic biopic covering the life and times of now-ubiquitous NSA leaker Edward Snowden, and the project is crowdfunding on a custom, WordPress-and-IgnitionDeck-powered crowdfunding solution.
“Classified: The Edward Snowden Story” is a biopic that will tell the story of Edward Snowden starting from the time he enlisted in the US army. In this 2 hour feature, we will explore the events leading up to the release of classified information on the National Security Agency’s various surveillance programs.
The campaign page states that filming will begin in January of 2014 and the film is to be released on International Talk Like a Pirate Day, September 9th, 2014. It is to be available via free download on The Pirate Bay.
A $300 pledge is said to land a role as a background character in the movie itself.
The campaign page is running on WordPress and powered by popular crowdfunding plugin IgnitionDeck. The frontend theme is the 500 theme, a free responsive solution provided on IgnitionDeck’s web site.
The campaign has raised over $80,000 at the time of writing from 7 backers. The campaign states a 20 day runway to raise $1.7 million. Amazon Payments and Bitcoins are being accepted as payments.
In the pitch video, the team also makes a personal appeal to Edward Snowden, asking for his assistance in making the film as realistic as possible.
