On Indiegogo: Atheer 3D Glasses Promise Features To Surpass Google Glass

With 40 days left in their Indiegogo campaign, wearable device technology startup Atheer has raised over $70,000 of a stated $100,000 goal for their innovative spin on 3D glasses.

The consumer-level variant is called the Atheer One, and the feature set promised by the team goes above and beyond what Google Glass has to offer. Just watch the pitch video below…

atheerImagine being able to control your technological ecosystem with hand gestures. That is the type of functionality the Atheer team wants to provide, but there are a lot of dominoes that have to fall before the Atheer One can hit store shelves. Perhaps more important is the Atheer developer kit, which the team hopes to distribute to developers early in an effort to allow them time to create software for the device. Atheer devices will run Android, which they say gives them a leg up since Google’s Play Store is already populated with over 800,000 apps.

The developer kit is slated for delivery in June while the consumer version for early adopters is slated for delivery in December of 2014.

Taken at face value, the campaign page states that the product has been in development since late 2012. The team explains where they are in terms of producing the dev kits…

We have already iterated on the optics, hardware, and electronics components which has allowed us to finalize the form factor and product ID. Currently the plastics and mechanical parts have been rapid prototyped, so they are rough around the edges, but that will go away when we get real plastics off the production line. We are now porting our software from the old prototypes platform to this new hardware.

Atheer is based in Mountain View, California and boasts a well-educated team. More information is available on the campaign page. It seems backers are confident the team can deliver. 167 of them have already pitched in. This campaign is almost certain to be fully-funded. A big raise could propel Atheer and the team onto other forms of funding as we’ve seen with other hardware startups in the crowdfunding world.
