On DemoHour: OneCard Is The Chinese “Coin,” Already Fully-Funded

onecardEdit: two cards to rule them all.

Coin aims to be the “one card to rule them all,” a credit-card-sized device that can store info from and act as any credit or debit card in the owner’s wallet. The associated crowdfunding campaign is still active today, and the plan is to begin shipping Coins to backers sometime this summer. The campaign rather famously hit a goal of $50,000 in under an hour.

Now a competitor in China is ramping up a crowdfunding effort of their own. It’s called OneCard, it is already fully-funded on Asian crowdfunding platform DemoHour, and it promises some pretty incredible features.

onecard-2Of note is that the card promises to handle not only credit and debit cards but loyalty cards as well. We’re getting closer to a wallet-free world.

CNET Asia reports that the card will also have built-in security features. Users have to enter a password before using the device. Too many incorrect password attempts and the device wipes information automatically.

The caveat? There is no OneCard just yet. The company behind the device expects to have a working prototype at the end of this month and believes it can ship to backers by March, an accelerated timeline to say the least.
